Fungus are spread by direct skin contact (with humans or animals), or indirectly from contaminated articles on floors or in the soil. Ringworm of the scalp is contagious. It can spread from person to person by direct contact or are transmitted in the following ways:

Human to human: Ringworm often spreads through skin-to-skin contact with an infected person. Shared places such as; changing rooms and showers are often a source of fungus.

Object to human: Ringworm can spread through contact with objects which an infected person or animal has touched, such as clothing, towels, combs or brushes.

Animal to human: Dogs and cats often carry ringworms. Other animals that are often carriers of the fungi include cows, goats and horses.
